Enable to View Hidden Files in XP
By default Microsoft windows keeps some folders as Hidden. This is true for windows XP as well.
But sometimes viruses create files inside the hidden folders. In such case if you use the windows search, the search results will skip the hidden files, and you will not be able to locate the virus files even if they are present on your computer.
To deal with this situation, you need to Enable to View the Hidden Files/ Folders first.
To do that in windows XP
Start > Control Panel (Switch to Classic View) > Folder Options
That will open the "Folder options" Window.
Select the "View" tab in it.
Under "Advaanced settings", Look for an option named "Hidden Files and Folders"
By default it would be set to "Do not show Hidden Files and Folders"
if that is so, you need to select the radio button option named
"Show Hidden Files and Folders" , and Press Apply button, Press Ok button.
Now that you can view the hidden files, you can search the virus files and delete them. You can Turn the settings to hide these again, once you have finished removing the viruses on your hard disk.
